“The Internet
is a phenomenon. It’s a Gold Rush. It’s beyond anything I have
ever experienced.” ~Bill Gates, Microsoft
“Now
is the time to develop an online presence. If your not using
the Internet today, you probably won’t be in business in the
tomorrow.” ~Kate Delhagen, Forrester Research, Inc.
The
Real Deal
OK,
so we've all heard how fast the Internet is growing and what a
‘phenomenon’ it is, but why should you and I jump on the bandwagon?
The marketing power of the Internet is unmatched by any other
marketing medium! Here are a few advantages that the Internet
currently gives businesses:
-
Cutting-edge
company image
-
Improved
service for current customers
-
Increased
visibility and exposure
-
Market
expansion
-
Online
transactions
-
Worldwide
information distribution
-
Lower
communication costs
Businesses,
both small and large, that get on the Internet now and leverage
these advantages will see a return on their investment in the
following areas.
- Reduced
research time and cost
- Reduced
printing and postage costs
- Use of
Web site for customer service
- Easily
access mailing lists and discussion groups related to their
businesses.
- A competitive
equalizer for smaller businesses.
"But my business is a service,
what does the Internet have to offer me?"
The fact is, although e-commerce is
growing at an astounding rate many people have not begun to use
the Internet for making purchases. They do however use the Internet
for researching businesses. The Internet has made it very easy
for consumers to get all the information they want on a service
or product at their convenience. If a business does not have a
web site that provides this information their potential customers
will find someone who does. Why? For several reasons.
First.
People are realizing that companies who are willing to invest
in an online presence are professionals who are serious about
what they do. Being on the Internet used to mean a Cutting-edge
company image. Now it is expected and a business that isn't online
just looks like someone who isn't serious about getting a consumers
business.
Second,
accuracy and convenience. How often have you had an employee of
a business quote you a price or give you product information that
turned out to be wrong. This happens to me all to often and I
don't think I am the only one. The written word has a way of inspiring
confidence and people trust that the information you have supplied
on your web site will be accurate. Now I go to a businesses web
site to get the clear accurate information I need to make a decision.
If they don't have a web site I keep looking until I find someone
else who does. And best of all, it is convenient, I read only
what I am interested in, and I can do it when it fits in my schedule.
Ask
yourself,
"How do I want my customers to view me?"
As someone who's not willing to investing the time
or money to provide quality service?
Or would you rather be seen as the business owner who is professional
and dedicated to meeting their customers needs in every way possible.
Getting on the Internet now should be a top priority for all businesses,
regardless of size, or service. Don't wait for your competitors
to beat you to the punch. This is too important, and we have
made it too easy, to pass this opportunity up.
